The Family Tree

The tree’s ancient limbs branch out like roads to several different worlds.

It is, in a way, a birthright… the way to the promised place.

“You found them yet?” I’d ask Mutt every day.

My brother would shake his head, gangrenous tongue hanging from his mangled jaw.

Then he’d crawl back up, trying a new route… disappearing within the tree’s barbaric upside-down beard.

“I found it.” Mutt’s perpetually decomposing head sprouts from the tangles. “Ma and Pa were there.”

My turn.

I grab the rope—same one that Ma, Pa and Mutt used– and slip my head into the noose.

HAVE A GREAT 2014 everyone 🙂 I’ve gotten so used to the holidays and I’m having a hard time letting go. lol 🙂

PPS. with the picture, i know how easy it is to mistake Mutt for a dog so i made a couple of edits since posting this story xo 🙂

CONTAMINATED CONCEPTION

She comes home every morning, limping, reeking of sex and decay.

She makes coffee, sits across from me.

We don’t talk about it. Even as gray alien semen dribble down her thighs.

Every night, our women steal from our beds, like moths mesmerized by the phallic tower and its glaring sex light.

I try to ignore the abomination housed in her contaminated womb.

She carries it proudly… like she’s the virgin fucking Mary.

It’s time.

She’s bound to the bed.

I point my rifle at the screaming hole between her thighs and wait for the bastard’s head to come out.

PS because I suck at making story titles, feel free to suggest one. ^^ i hope your Christmas celebration rocked. xo 🙂

Catching Death

In a place like this, catching death is as easy as walking in the wrong alley.

I heard a woman, her fists pounding from door to door… the sound of desperation reverberating through the walls.

When she reached my home, I almost let her in… but didn’t. Couldn’t.

When she screamed, it was like her soul fled her body through her mouth so that it wouldn’t be there anymore when they defiled her.

Then, silence.

I imagined her sprawled across the cold stones while they ravaged her…

Her soul a detached observer, hovering… Like mine did when they took me.

FIXED

“It’s alright,” momma said. “We’ll have you fixed, sweetie.”

They excised parts of me as if they were tumors… upgraded me as if I were a machine.

They added some; they removed some.

But somehow managed to leave behind the cancer of self-doubt.

I learned to live with the stranger in the mirror.

Because no one ever made fun of her face.

Twenty-five years later, I teach my daughter something that I wish my momma had taught me instead.

“You’re beautiful, sweetie. Just the way you are… If someone tells you otherwise, you punch them right in the nose job.”

Friday Fictioneers: 100-words Story Challenge LVII

Maura was four when she said the darndest thing.

“You’re so much nicer than my old mommy. She tried to eat me.”

She was my baby. Years of trying and finally, God gave her to me.

It got worse when she refused to go to school, crying, kicking and screaming “I don’t want you to die!”

One day, we were buying groceries. The ground trembled and saltwater seeped in from every corner ‘til it hid my knees.

Maura looked at me sadly, “It’s alright, mommy.”

I watched, throat cauterized, as she shed her skin and let the waves take her.

Alone

I never meant it…

When I said I wanted to be alone…

Yet here I am in the gut of the earth, bounded by time-eaten stones.

I told you.

Though in different words. Like “I can’t go on anymore.” Or “I feel so hopeless.”

Even in bed as you shuddered on top of me… my spasmodic moans laced with stifled pleas. Help me.

If you listened, you would’ve heard how my slippers sighed sadly against stone.

Yet… I was alone…

When I embraced death and it embraced me…

When I sobbed and my head throbbed… and the darkness took me.

He walked towards her as if holding together the edges of a wound.

A wound borne for 50 years.

She’d been beautiful then… walking down the aisle towards some other guy.

He approached her in his arthritic gait, the box in his pocket twitching like a thing alive.

Seeing him, she touched her face then dropped her hand, as if her skin pricked her fingers.

He hoped it wasn’t too late to make her feel beautiful again.

He went down on one knee though it hurt like hell.

It took him 40 years to realize… being second isn’t so bad.

Friday Fictioneers: 100-words Story Challenge LIII

I escaped in a boat steered by faith, until the hostile shore faded into a memory.

I breathed in the ocean’s salty exhalations as if it were the last air on earth.

I longed for the simplicity of the sea…

Actually, I longed for home.

The city spoke in a language that was alien to me.

There, they twisted the world to fit the shapes of their fantasies.

I thought it would be different–brighter, better…

The sky purpled to the color of suffocation.

Distant city lights blinked obscenely like fireflies’ sex calls…

Sick of it, I dove towards liberty.

Lovely Emelie

From the window, I watched the girl who spurned me.

Lovely Emelie… dangling from the tree, swinging from side to side in mocking glee.

My heart fluttered a staccato serenade. Even then, her beauty didn’t fade.

Her white dress billowed in a breeze I couldn’t touch, concealing all that was denied from me.

The mob stirred like a stormy sea.

I watched as they tore her apart… to pieces, like my broken heart.

Witch or not, she put a spell on me- a man of God.

Lovely Emelie… She should’ve loved me…

Foolish girl chose to die on that tree…
