The stream sang
a wet love song.
Evening blossoms exhaled
into the breeze,
creating fragrances
that felt like muffled laughter…
I remembered
awkward lessons
about the birds and the bees
and shy confessions
of my inexperience
met by a chorus of giggles.
Ice Princess,
they’d tease.
That night,
I lay on the grass,
listening to his skin
hiss against mine…
The moon waxed
and waned
with our breathing.
The coldness within me
broke
like an icicle.
Dawn came
to find us like that,
perfectly entwined
and bathed
in lavender delirium.
For once in my life,
I’m glad I waited.

Lovely kz. And a great take on the prompt.
That was just beautiful, darling — I loved how you started with “the birds and the bees” and went from there.
Had to read it several times to appreciate the metaphor. Beautifully handled.
so lovely … thank you
That was lovely. It has an almost lazy, timeless feel to it, very enjoyable kz

That was wonderfully done, kz.

KZ every week you amaze me with your range. You excel in every genre you put your pen to.
So beautifully written kz.
BTW the photo is at a place called Edenvale in the south of England. I’ve been there. It’s extraordinary. And there really is a huge bee sculpture in the grounds – behind you see the enormous greenhouses where they have experimented with various climates, hydroponics, etc.
But why do you need to know all this when you see a picture of a bee and create a beautiful tender story from it? Well done.
thanks so much 🙂 it’s actually great to know. i was wondering where this was taken.
This was gorgeous. The imagery was so perfect—simply and delicate and not overdone.
I liked the image of “listening to his skin”
Very sweet.
absolutely beautiful

Fabulous work as always kz.
That’s just lovely. I love the description: listening to his skin hiss against mine… So erotic. Excellent writing, kz!
Great story, I read it several times and I will probably read it several more. Thanks
Sigh…
Perfect kz.
Lovely and original.
Outstanding! I swear your writing gets better every week.
Your Birds & Bees tale turned out much better than mine 🙂
Dear Kz,
This was one of your nicest poems to date. Well written, paced and plotted.
Aloha,
Doug
Whew! My breath has finally returned. It’s always nice to hear something so gracious, so beautifully rendered without pandering to the lowest common denominator. Ya got the goods, KZ. Marvelous!
Beautifully done…very impressive! Can’t even pick a favorite line because they are all very good.
thank you 🙂 thanks for dropping by
Nice take on the birds and the bees.
A wonderful thick drizzle of honey…
Thanks for your visit.
Those first two lines set the scene there…bet you had fun with that!
