To sit serenely
On a throne of hard pebbles
Gift of contentment.

Today’s word: Buddha

  1. Oh you are so right, so so right. This haiku of your is a classic. At the end of a book called ‘A Short Walk In The Hindu Kush,’ the writer, Eric Newby, meets famous explorer Wilfred Thesiger, strolling along a path in Afghanistan. After a while they bed down for the night on stony ground. Newby and companion unroll mattresses and sleeping bags. Thesiger, who lies down straight onto the stony ground, looks at them in shock. ‘What are you, a pair soft ****ers?’ He asks. That ending almost defined me as a young man! Loved it. Your haiku is very powerful for me.
